Man with maintenance default of $20, 900: “Should I die or go to jail?”

Number of View: 448 Hi Gilbert, My ex wife is a PRC and we were married for less than 4 years before the marriage ran aground. The end of the marriage also was the start of a financial nightmare for me. Let me explain… Few years back, my ex-wife’s  father invested  in a local  business here. I helped to run  the business and took  a loan from the bank due to shortage of cash. My ex-wife and I were   guarantors of the loan.  Unfortunately, we divorced after I have helped her to apply for Singaporean citizenship.  We have a young child. I  have no money to engage a  lawyer during the divorce proceeding and ended up accepting the child maintenance bill of  $1100/month even though she has a few businesses with her. After we divorced,    I took over  the business loan instalment of $4000 per month for 4 years. My ex-wife also did not pressed me for the payment of any maintenance due to her because of that.  I also closed down the business as it was financially not viable for me to carry on.
